It was a rainy day in the month of MAY. Heavy droplets of rain continued falling down from the sky as I hurried down the path in a eager to get home quickly. I had missed the last bus and my car was in the repair center. So I have been facing a lots of problems because of that. I continued walking down the road trying to catch a taxi or even book an uber or whatever I could. "UH! did it seriously have to rain today out of all days when my car is in repair? why is this happening to me actually?Really?!" I continued walking down the path wondering how long do I have to actually keep on walking again? I was soaked in the rain,my umbrella doing little to no help. Oh did I forget to mention the year? It was 2026 . And here I had just returned to my hometown after a long stay outside for my higher studies and job.
I had actually been home for a week now then I had decided to go for a solo trip inside my hometown considering it is a huge town with many people and things. Tho I would have to admit that a lot had changed in the city only after a few years. I missed actually being here ,walking with my friends and those chats, memories, days. It was like a home to all of us ...and that special guy whom I had lost my heart too..I wonder if he still remembered me after all this while. I sighed and walked faster in the rain. "It's beginning to rain harder. shit! I might as well found a place to stay for the time being I guess. " I thought as I hurried up. Suddenly I saw a cafe on the side of the road open and decided to go there.
TING,TING,TING... the small bell on the door of the cafe rang as I entered it. Fresh coffee and pancake with a honey tinge caught my nose as I entered it. I breathed in the scent and smiled for some reason. "Welcome to my coffee shop dear! It must have been raining very bad outside, you got all wet. OH dear! come in , I will give you a towel to dry yourself or you might catch cold. Come in!" said a old motherly lady on seeing me and hurrying towards me to give a towel as soon as I had entered. I just smiled at her warmly , touched and said,"Thank you so much aunty! You are right its raining cats and dogs outside and I was not getting any ride to go back home so when I saw your shop I decide to come here. I hope that it won't be a problem for you" I said rubbing my hairs with the towel as I sat there in the chair. "Oh no problem! I totally understand. You can be here as long as you want. If you want to change let me know or you can sit here under the fan and be around for a while. My house is exactly backside of this cafe. It is run by my husband and me. We do employ a few people but as it is already night so they have gone home. I was about to shut the shop too but then you arrived and I m glad I m able to help you." she said smiling warmly. I immediately felt guilty and apologized," I m so sorry! I didn't knew it was going to close. I probably disturbed you guys because of this. Sorry" I said feeling apologetic but she smiled and waved it off not saying anything. Just then an old man entered the cafe from the behind and smiled on seeing me. "Who is this lovely child, dear? Shouldn't you be home right now? Its raining heavily, you might get sick you know? Honey give her a set of extra clothes, she might end up getting sick from wet clothes." The old man spoke warmly and his wife nodded rushing off to get me a pair of new clothes and then returned and said,"the bathroom is that way. Feel free to change there and stay as long as you want." I was touched by their kindness and warmly smiled thanking them for whatever they were doing for me.
Just then the bell rang again making all of us turn towards the door. A handsome man, tall, lean, stood there on the door bending down catching his breathe as if he had ran quite a few. Then he took off his raincoat and umbrella and then walked towards us apologetically. The old aunty hurried towards him worried if he is okay enough. Just then he turned around the corner and came inside and I went in shock...IT WAS HIM! THE ONE PERSON WHO HAVE BEEN ON MY MIND ALWAYS....YES HIM. He smiled and said ," Can I stay here for the night aunt? Its raining heavily and I don't have anywhere to stay right now as my car won't start too. Hope you guys don't mind..." The old couple smiled and ushered him inside and gave him a towel too as I sat there dumbfounded.. I sat there slowly rubbing my hairs and not uttering a word when he noticed me actually.... His eyes widened and he called out to me ,"Hey Jane...Is that you? Am I really seeing you after such a long time?" I looked upto him and smiled at him," HEY Ben,how are you? Long time no meeting you. " He kept staring at me before coming and just hugging me and suddenly I felt all the things I had kept in me all this while, all the misunderstandings ,the fights and everything was never worth it. We were happy together always but just because I had misunderstood him and he had let his anger get the best of him that day maybe because of that we separated. But as it seems even after all this , we still loved each other so much. In a way we never separated or got off each other's mind.
"Why did you leave even if you even loved me so much? Was a simple fault enough to make you leave?" I asked between tears. He just sobbed harder. and after finally clearing everything out after 5 years maybe that day we really were happy atlast... We had just got eachother back. The old couple was watching us fondly ,"Bless you both. You both looks so lovely together! Oh look the rain stopped even,I might as well call for a taxi to take you guys back home." The old man hurried out saying that and got us a taxi... We thanked the elderly couple and got in the taxi and went home.
A FEW DAYS LATER, we have gone there back to invite the couple for our engagement. But couldn't find the cafe nor the people.
WE were confused and then stopped a passerby and asked him about it.He gave us a weird look and answered,"BUT THAT HOUSE HAS BURNT TO CRISP IN THE FIRE 6 MONTHS AGO AND THE COUPLE DIED ALONG WITH IT." We were shocked to the core and looked at each other than thanking the heavens for whatever happened went back home still shocked about it.
